Top 10 Most Famous Castles & Coloring Ideas

Keep reading to learn about ten iconic castles, including where they come from, what films they’ve been in, and ways to use our coloring pages themed after these interesting structures!

1. Cinderella’s Castle (Disney)

If you’ve ever watched a Disney movie, you’ll recognize the animated castle that appears in the introduction. This castle is from Cinderella (1950).

You can actually visit replicas of Cinderella’s Castle at Disney World and in Tokyo’s Disneyland, which is modeled after the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany.

To fill in my coloring sheet of Cinderella’s Castle, make sure to have light pink, baby blue, dark blue, silver, and gold colors on hand if you’re going for accuracy.

I recommend making it look more magical by using glitter gel pens or metallic paints!

2. Camelot (King Arthur)

Camelot is one of the most iconic legends in the world and has been depicted by many artists over the years.

However, one real-world location, Dover Castle, was used as Camelot in King Arthur (2004). If you love the legend of Camelot, you’ll love coloring in my illustration of this iconic location.

Dover Castle is rather bland when it comes to color, as beige and dark brown are its core shades. So, when coloring in this picture, I recommend using a more expansive palette.

For instance, you could include red in the brick, or you could add green moss!

3. Wrotham Park

Wrotham Park, located in Hertfordshire, England, is a popular tourist location for movie-goers.

In addition to being an interesting historical artifact, films such as Gosford Park (2001), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), and Kingsman: The Secret Service were filmed there.

If you love any of the above movies, you’ll enjoy coloring-in my illustration of this popular castle! The color palette features dark gray and white, but I recommend using more expansive colors.

For instance, try making the castle green or cover it with glitter; make it more unique to your personal tastes.

4. Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle is one of the most famous castles in Europe, having housed each British monarch since the 12th century.

So, if you love keeping up with the Royal family, you’ll love coloring in my illustration of this gorgeous castle.

Windsor Castle has a slight pink sheen to it, so when coloring in, I recommend using a pale pink to highlight the rougher edges, in addition to using gray and beige.

5. Highclere Castle

Highclere Castle has become a booming tourist attraction in the last decade, as it’s the filming location for Downton Abbey, one of the most successful period drama series ever made.

So, if you’re a fan of the fictitious Crawley family, you’ll certainly enjoy coloring in my illustration of this famous location!

This castle is beige-gold and gray-brown, but I also recommend drawing in the estate grounds to add a bit more color to the picture.

6. Chatsworth House

If you’re an avid period drama fan, you likely know that Chatsworth House is one of the main filming locations in Pride and Prejudice (2005), based on the novel by Jane Austen.

A vast majority of “Austenites” (fans of the author) dream of visiting this gorgeous castle, and if you’re one of them, you’ll certainly enjoy coloring in my illustration of Chatsworth.

This castle is a lovely beige-gold color, with brown outlining the rougher edges.

As well, there are planters on the window sills filled with flowers, so when choosing your color palette for this sheet, make sure to include some pink or red in the mix for extra vibrancy.

7. Doune Castle

Finally, Doune Castle is a 13th-century Scottish estate, and is the filming location for many iconic shows, including Game of Thrones, The Wizard of Oz, and Outlander.

Doune Castle still maintains its original deep red color on the main part of the building, so make sure to include that when selecting your color palette for this coloring sheet.

Also, I recommend making this coloring sheet more interesting by drawing in the characters from The Wizard of Oz, as their colorful outfits will add greatly to the vibrancy of this picture.
